    The Senior Artist/Lighter will work with the Art Director to define and implement the final lighting for the game. They will need to be able to communicate and demonstrate any lighting needs to the programming team. Everyone wants to make great games. Come to Relic and you will.

    Responsibilities:
    • Communicate effectively with both artists and programmers
    • Document and teach needed art production techniques to artists
    • Use latest techniques and tools to light in game environments and characters
    • Work with Art Director and Designers to achieve final lighting for game
    • Work with rendering programmers to design and refine lighting technology for the game.
    • Optimizing lighting for delivery on console

    Requirements:
    • Post-secondary traditional art training, preferably Degree or BA in Fine or Commercial Graphic Arts or equivalent experience
    • 5+ years of relevant experience
    • An advanced understanding of real-time rendering’s performance needs
    • Advanced knowledge of lighting and shadow techniques
    • Thorough knowledge and proficiency using 3D modeling packages, including but not limited to 3D Studio Max
    • Thorough knowledge and efficiency using 2D art creation/manipulation packages, including but not limited to Photoshop
    • Self-driven, good communicator and a great team-player

    • Supervise the implementation of game systems.
    • Experience managing a team of designers
    • Mentor/train other level designers. Team management is required.
    • Maintain excellent communication across the entire team.
    Preference to applicants with:
    • Familiarity with Unreal's Kismet scripting tool
    • Experience with current-generation console games, platforms and a familiarity with performance issues
    • Working knowledge of 2D art tools, such as Adobe Photoshop
    • Working knowledge of 3D art tools, such as Max, Maya, or Lightwave
    • Secondary education degree or equivalent.
    Sample Work Requested:
    • Applicants should submit level samples in a playable Unreal Level
    • Example Mission Document, including beats and pacing
    • Include a written description of each sample, identifying in detail your contribution to the level. Online or CD submissions preferred.
    • Any supplemental materials demonstrating skills relevant to this position are also encouraged (e.g., additional documentation or writing samples, architectural drawings).
